Martin Gilmore Music - October 2024
Fall is here! The leaves are turning, the frost is coming, and there’s a change in the air. Nevertheless, things keep rolling along over here at the Gilmore homestead. September was a busy month, and October doesn’t seem to be slowing down. I’m very grateful to be busy, and that is in no small part due to you all and your support over the years. I appreciate it very much!
My friend Pat Kelleher and his wife visited from County Cork in Ireland early in September. We played in Chugwater, Wyoming at the fantastically western Stampede Saloon, and we headed up to play at the wonderful Gold Hill Inn later that weekend. The next weekend the Martin Gilmore Trio played in Westcliffe, Colorado for the High Peaks Music Festival for KLZR radio. It was great to hang out with our friends Mollie O’Brien & Rich Moore, and Harry Tuft. We enjoyed seeing the Hazel Miller band perform as well. Westcliffe is a beautiful little town and their community radio station is a fantastic asset to the region. I’m always glad to be part of their music happenings. We also played a set at the Art on the Green city festival in Greenwood Village, Colorado and it was great to see so many familiar faces in the crowd for that festival. Bradley Morse of Gasoline Lollipops fame filled in on bass for those two festivals because Ian Haegele was out of town. We played a fun house concert on the 21st in a backyard in Denver, which was really fun. If you are interested in hosting a house concert please reach out to me. I can help you get it organized and would love to come play some music for you and your friends.
I am lucky enough to have been selected as an official showcase artist at the annual Southwest Regional Folk Alliance (SWRFA) conference in Austin, Texas this year. That means I got to travel to Austin to play music for industry professionals and hopefully meet some folks in a wider region to play shows and collaborate with. I was elected to the board of SWRFA this year as well, and I’m very much looking forward to being part of this great organization. If you’re a musician and songwriter, please consider joining the Folk Alliance, and send me a message for more information about the 2025 SWRFA events. I am also playing some sets with Jackson Emmer again, and we will be on tour in Texas during the first week of the month.
I might as well move on to those shows right now.
I will be playing with Jackson Emmer at Kojak’s - Song Circle Houston on October 3rd. We will travel to New Braunfels for a show the next day on October 4th. Then we will be at Peggy’s Porch Party in Austin, Texas on October 5th, and playing a house concert on October 6th also in Austin. So, there’s a lot of opportunity to catch us if you are around central Texas. It looks like the hurricanes will miss us as well. We will keep our fingers crossed for that.
October 12th I will be at Cowpoke Palooza in Montrose, Colorado playing some western music for the good folks at Uncompahgre Farms. Nick Amodeo will be joining me playing electric guitar and mandolin.
I’ll be headed to the FAR West Folk Alliance Conference in Los Angeles, California from October 17th-20th playing with Jackson Emmer. If you’re around there for the conference come say howdy!
Some things to keep on the radar for November are that I will be teaching a Wernick Method Bluegrass Jam class starting November 10th and running Sundays into December. It’s a great place to gain some jamming skills, meet other pickers, try a new instrument, or just play some music. You can sign up now!
That’s about all for October! I have several new videos up on my YouTube page, and always have more stuff in the works over there. If you’re interested in guitar lessons or some songwriting coaching, let me know! I’m often too busy to offer those, but I have some open time and folks do ask for it fairly frequently. I would love to help if I can!
Happy fall! Enjoy the leaves and changing weather. It always seems like my most creative time of year and I’m looking forward to “soup & sweater” season. Stay well!
Martin
